PyGar Natural Insecticide is approved for the control of flying and crawling insects in dairy food preparation areas, meat packing, pack houses, animal slaughtering premises, factories and residential housing. PyGar can be used in a wide variety of situations, from the thermal fogging of a warehouse facility for general insect pests through to outdoor use for mosquito control.
Pyrethrum is a natural substance purified from chrysanthemum flowers. Chrysanthemum flowers have been available in Europe for over 150 years and in their powdered form were used as louse and flea powders. It is only in the last 50 years that liquid concentrates for public health pest control have appeared, and only in the last 10 years that they have been available for use in horticulture, where increasingly the use of PBO is prohibited. The addition of the synergist PBO to our natural pyrethrum formulation reduces the insects’ ability to quickly metabolise and de-toxify the natural pyrethrum, therefore giving effective control and enhancing kill. Without PBO it is likely a lower level of kill will be achieved resulting in poor control.
This mode of action leads to a broad-spectrum of insecticidal activity. Pyrethrum is non-persistent in the environment and natural pyrethrum has not been notified as an insecticide with a high risk of insect resistance. The reason for this is that pyrethrum is a mixture of active ingredients, pyrethrins I and II (harder to develop resistance to). The presence of PBO in PyGar inhibits the insects natural resistance mechanism.
